Gibbings illustrated more than 60 books -- 14 of which he also wrote -- including Charles Darwin's 'Voyage of HMS Beagle', 'Beasts and Saints', by Helen Waddell and 'Glory of Life' by Llewelyn Powys. Much of his work was inspired by his love of the natural world, his travels in the South Seas and his pioneering adventures underwater.
